Singer/Songwriter/Entertainer Taylor Swift showed up at the US Box Office and slayed. Swift scored the number one spot with her film, The Official Release Party of a Showgirl. The cinematic event was in theaters for only three days but managed to rake in $34 million. It’s a promotional flick for Swift’s latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, which has been breaking records since its release last week.
Swift bumped the comedy-drama One Battle After Another from the top spot to number two, where it earned $11 million, bringing its total US haul to $42.6 million, according to The Numbers website. In third, The Smashing Machine, which opened with $6 million. That’s the lowest opening ever for a movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The sports drama about MMA legend Mark Kerr has Oscar buzz, but is struggling to spark interest among moviegoers.
Rounding out the top five, the family adventure film Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie in fourth with $5.3 million, followed by the supernatural horror film The Conjuring: Last Rites with $4 million.
