As the photo above shows, the Santa Barbara wildfire was pretty scary yesterday; today it’s even more so. Those erratic and strong sundowner winds kicked up last night and the wildfire exploded again, burning more acres, homes, and forcing thousands to grab what they could and evacuate.

Acting Santa Barbara City Fire Chief Andrew DiMizio described it best:”…last night all hell broke loose.” This morning, officials say the number of acres scorched has reached 3,500 along with at least 75 homes destroyed. Also, 30,000 residents have been forced out of their homes and another 16,000 have been told to be prepared to evacuate.
Today, fire crews launched assaults on the ravenous flames from the air and on the ground. The winds are calm, but it is still hot and dry. Tonight, those devilish sundowners are expected return for an encore.
