“Marvel’s The Avengers” is still packing them in at theaters. The superhero flick is number one at the domestic box office for the third straight week with a haul of $55.6 million. “Battleship,” based on a board game and with a cast that included Liam Neeson and Rihanna, was not much of a challenger — it debuted with $25.5 million last weekend — good enough for second place.
“The Dictator,” starring Sacha Baron Cohen, came in third with $17.4 million. This new comedy is about the mishaps and adventurers of a dictator during a visit to America. “Dark Shadows” followed in fourth with $12.5 million. Wrapping up the top five, the having babies comedy, “What to Expect When You’re Expecting,” with $10.5 million. Based on a best selling book with the same title, this movie has some big names, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, and Chris Rock, however, it’s debut box office total shows audiences were not impress enough to turn out to see in a big way.
