The historical drama and Oscar contender, “Lee Daniels’ ‘The Butler,” scored domestic box office gold again this weekend. The drama, starring Oprah Winfrey and Forest Whitaker, held onto the number one spot for the second week in a row, despite challenges from a group of new films.
“The Butler” appears to be expanding its audience from mostly older African Americans to younger and more diverse moviegoers. The film could hold strong in theaters for weeks and that means more dollars and more time to build on its Oscar buzz. More on The Wrap here.
