‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ won the first round in the battle against Superman at the box office over the weekend. In its debut, the Marvel Studios F4 rocketed into theaters with a domestic box office of $117.6 million, taking over the number spot from ‘Superman.’ The action-sci-fi movie took in $218 million worldwide. A good start, but no guarantee it will win the summer battle of the superheroes at the cinema.
‘Superman’ slipped to second place with $24.8 million and is nearing the $300 million mark at the domestic box office in about three weeks. Coming in at third is ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ at $13.2 million. Rounding out the top five, the animation ‘Smurfs’ with $5.4 million, and close behind, the horror flick sequel ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ with $5.2 million.
