Trees are as much a part of the great cityscape of Burbank as movie studios and California Bungalows. These natural wonders need to be replenished in order to continue to beautify the landscape. The city is celebrating its tree planting efforts this coming Thursday, March 26, at a Tree City USA ceremony.
The event will be multi-faceted and will recognize B-town’s Plant-a-Tree Program donors, “Tree City USA” designation, as well as help to usher in Arbor Day next month. This is the 60th anniversary of the Plant-a-Tree Program, which is a month-long donation campaign used to purchase trees that will be planted throughout Burbank. Donations for trees will be accepted through the end of the month. More information is available on the city website. For the 18th year, the program is being spearheaded by the Burbank Civic Pride Committee.
Meanwhile, the National Arbor Day Foundation has named Burbank as a Tree City USA recipient for the 38th consecutive year. Burbank is one of only two communities in the Golden State, the other Scramento, that have been recognized every year since the program’s inception.
Thursday’s family friendly event will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Verdugo Park at 3201 West Verdugo Avenue. There will be a ceremony and activities like scavenger hunt within the park, singing by Burbank elementary students, crafts, and a story time. Also, participants will be offered a free tree sapling to plant at their home.
