Identical twins, Jamie C. and Erin K. Schonauer, have a lot in common beyond their obvious appearance. They both like history and are talented writers who work in the children’s market. A little over a year ago, the Burbank residents decided to pen a book about the early beginnings of the Media City. It was published last month by Arcadia Publishing.
In doing their research, the twins told me they “… interviewed local historians such as Erik C. Andersen from the Burbank Tournament of Roses Association and Ron Dickson, local historian from the Burbank Aviation Museum group. We also used a bevy of sources such as archived documents from the Los Angeles Times and archived issues of the Burbank Daily Review.”
Also, they needed photos for the book, so the Schonauers say “… we reached out to the community and contacted long-time Burbank residents and also contacted organizations in town such as the Burbank Aviation Museum group, Wes Clark and Mike McDaniel’s Burbankia, the Burbank Tournament of Roses Association, and the Burbank Historical Society.”
Two weeks ago, more tha 60 people showed up for their book signing event at the Buena Vista Library. Some were long-time residents. Others were recent arrivals with a strong curiosity about Burbank roots.

The young authors are delighted with the response: “We hope that our book will help preserve Burbank’s past, spark interest in her history, and inspire those to find more of her hidden historical gems.”
Their next book signing for “Early Burbank” is today, May 10, at Costco 1051 West Burbank Boulevard from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Also, you can pick up the book at the following Burbank retailers.
