A ton of chatter about the premiere of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” Monday night rating reportedly show 11.3 million viewers stayed up for the midnight broadcast, according to The Hollywood Reporter. I watched and was disappointed. I’ve seen Fallon on “Late Night” and thought he was a pretty good host. Hipper and more into the pop culture scene than Jay Leno, but just as likeable.
Last night, Fallon seemed nervous, gushing about being the new “Tonight Show” host and dishing out way too much humble pie. His monologue was so-so funny, the evolution of hip hop dancing with Will Smith was cool, loved the bit with the famous folks coming out dropping $100 bills on his desk to pay-off a bet, and U2 and The Roots were terrific.
Fallon moved the legendary talk show back to New York and even returned “starring” to the title — for the first time since the Johnny Carson days. This is the honeymoon period — but eventually, he has to convince a lot of viewers to tune in for his version of the “Tonight Show” on a regular basis. Oh, First Lady, Michelle Obama, is set to to join Fallon on his new show this Thursday.
Vice-President Joe Biden’s office tweeted out today that he will be sitting down with the ladies of “The View” next Tuesday, February 25. It was announced earlier that the Veepee will be a guest on the first “Late Night With Seth Meyers” next Monday.
Not an official member of the White House team, but Marvel’s Captain America has a special guest appearance coming up. The actor behind the shield, Chris Evans, is the Grand Marshal for the 56th annual Daytona 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series on Sunday, February 23, according to the Disney blog. Evans will be seen on the big screen next in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” scheduled for release in April.
