Oscar-winner, Jennifer Lawrence, is getting a lot of attention for her upcoming leading role in the “Hunger Games” sequel “Catching Fire.” Not a lot of big films out this year being carried by females. This past summer, Sandra Bullock was the lead in two notables: “Gravity” and “The Heat” with Melissa McCarthy.
Women go the movies just as much as men: “The gender composition of moviegoers (people who went to a movie at the cinema at least once in the year) in 2012 skewed slightly more towards women than the overall population (and up 1 percentage point versus 2011), while tickets sold continued to be split evenly among both genders.” according to the MPAA, Motion Picture Association of America.
“Hunger Games: Catching Fire” is expected to debut with huge box office numbers this weekend. Maybe, that will kick start a trend of more plump leads for females in films. More here.
