A lot of viewers tuned into see the Ellen Degeneres hosted 86th Academy Awards ceremony last night. The ratings are out today and they show 43 million watched the kudocast. It got a 12.9 rating among the most valued 18-to-49 demographic.
This Oscar broadcast drew three million more viewers than the last time Degeneres handled the hosting duties in 2007, according to Variety. A lot of chatter today about the pizza giveaway, the celebrity group selfie, Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” dance, and Pink’s wonderful rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” More on the best and not so great moments at the Oscars here.
As for the Awards, the cast and crew of Best Picture winner “12 Years a Slave” are probably still partying and celebrating their win. Among them, Lupita Nyong’o who won Best Supporting Actress for her work in the film, based on a true story of one man’s brutal experience with slavery in America. John Ridley picked up Best adapted screenplay for “12 Years a Slave.”
The space thriller, “Gravity,” won the most awards –7 — including the Oscar for director Alfonso Cuaron. “Dallas Buyers Club” picked up three — among them Best Actor for Matthew McConaughey and Best Supporting Actor for Jared Leto.
“American Hustle,” “Nebraska,” “Captain Phillips,” “The Wolf of Wall Street,” and “Philomena” were completely shut out.
