‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ remains in the top spot at the domestic box office. Nevertheless, the superhero/sci-fi flick’s victory last weekend was not pretty. The final numbers show the movie, based on characters from Marvel Comics, dropped a hefty 67% for a take of $38.7 million. Many movie commentators were quick to call this second week tally an indicator that the film will not be the breakout blockbuster Marvel Studios had hoped for. In 12 days of release, it has earned a little over $200 million domestically and nearly twice as much globally.
Debuting in second place, the animation sequel ‘Bad Guys 2’ with $21.9 million, followed by another new movie, the reboot of ‘The Naked Gun’ in third with $16,8 million. ‘Superman’ slipped to fourth with $13.7 million and rounding out the top five ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ at $8.7 million.
