Southland 2014 Olympian, Kate Hansen, was honored during the “Woman of the Year” awards ceremony in the Assembly Chambers of the State Capitol in Sacramento yesterday. Assemblyman Gatto nominated Hansen for her “… athletic accomplishments and indomitable spirit.” Gatto explained it this way in the release: “I owe so much to the strong women in my life, who inspired me. Kate Hansen inspired the world at Sochi.”
Hansen is the first American to win a World cup luge singles event in almost 17 years. Shortly after winning the U.S. National champion, the La Cañada Flintridge resident, broke her foot. Despite the injury, three months later she placed 10th in the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
Hansen is back in the Southland today with a busy schedule. Details
