Burbank teacher arrested (BPD photo)
A Burbank gym teacher is behind bars following an arraignment on charges of lewd acts with a minor. After a week-long investigation, 33-year-old Dimitri Altobar, of Burbank, was arrested on May 14 by Burbank Police, according to a news release from that department. Altobar is accused of having inappropriate contact with a student while employed as a physical education teacher at St. Francis Xavier School in Burbank.
The Catholic school placed Altobar on administrative leave. However, there are reports that a letter sent to parents by the school stated that Altobar would not be returning to his position.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and filed five counts of committing lewd acts with a child under the age of 14 years against Altobar. He was arraigned on the charges today in Los Angeles Superior Court, in Downtown Los Angeles. Altobar pleaded not guilty. He was then ordered held without bail until his next court appearance on June 27.
Meanwhile, the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Burbank Police Department Investigations Division at (818) 238-3210.
