The new Smart & Final Extra! is open for business in Burbank. Smart & Final kicked off a soft opening on March 23 at 3830 West Verdugo Avenue. The warehouse, grocery, and discount chain is hoping it has the winning formula to make the location profitable. A couple of different supermarkets have occupied the space just in the past couple of years.
Back in December of 2014, it was an Albertson’s market– but then the parent company sold it and more than a hundred others to Haggen, a Washington state based grocery store chain. Unfortunately, Haggen had a financial meltdown soon after the sale and ended up filing for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy last September. Haggen put more than 100 of its newly acquired stores up for sale. Smart & Final put in a bid for the West Verdugo Avenue store last fall and it was accepted.
To introduce this Smart & Final Extra! to local businesses and the community, a “Customer Appreciation Day” is planned for next month. The event will be on Tuesday, April 12, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. There will be special deals and hoopla like a ribbon cutting ceremony.
