Two new adult films debuted at the top of the Box Office, outperforming expectations. Leading the way, “Jackass 3D,” a crude comedy, that packed theaters and earned an estimated $50 million, to become the new number one film in the country.
This is the third installment of the “Jackass” series and is based on the TV series (2000-2002). The movie has no real plot, and basically shows a bunch of guys doing stupid pranks, stunts, and other idiotic routines. You either dig this kind of R-rated humor or you don’t. Johnny Knoxville stars.
In second place, a different kind of adult film, “Red,” which stars Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, Mary-Louise Parker, and Bruce Willis. “Red” debuted with around $22.5 million. It’s about a CIA agent who is forced to come out of retirement and to assembly his old team, after he gets targeted by assassins. The action-comedy is based on a DC comic book series of the same name.
Following in third place, “The Social Network” with an estimated $11 million, “Secretariat” with $9.5 million took fourth, and the comedy/drama, “Life as We know It,” is close behind in fifth with $9.2 million.
