A shocking development in Burbank politics. Vice Mayor Zizette Mullins is not running for re-election. Mullins made the surprise announcement yesterday on Facebook. She wrote, “Serving this community has been one of the greatest honors of my life. After much reflection, I am writing to share a bittersweet update with you all: I have decided not to seek re-election for City Council.”
A total of three city council seats will be on the upcoming General Election November 3 ballot. Incumbents, Council Member/Mayor Tamala Takahashi and Council Member Nikki Perez, already have their re-election campaigns up and running. Now that Mullins has decided not to run, it is guaranteed there will be at least one new face on the city council after the election.
Vice-Mayor Mullins was set to move up to mayor, as is the tradition in the city. A position many thought she was eager to embrace. Mullins was elected to the city council in November of 2022, after being appointed as Burbank City Clerk in 2012. A year later, Mullins won the election for that office. After a long career in public service, she has apparently decided to move in a different direction: “It comes only after many hours of deep thoughts, prayers, and heartfelt conversations with my family, weighing it against the exciting possibilities of the future.” She explained.
Mullins added she was “… looking forward to the adventure of the unknown.”
