Several new films are gunning to bump the action flick, “2 Guns,” from the number spot at the domestic box office this weekend. The sci-fi thriller, “Elysium” appears to be the front runner to take down the Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg buddy pix. However, the other new flicks like the raunchy comedy, “We’re the Millers,” the Disney animation “Planes,” and the fantasy adventure sequel “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” are out there fighting for the box office dollars as well. “This is going to be one of the biggest weekends ever in August.. ” according to Box Office Mojo.
Matt Damon’s “Elysium” opened in the top spot yesterday, but tonight’s haul at theaters will determine the weekend champ. More on Deadline.
