The Burbank City Council kicks off January with its first official meeting of 2025 today. The council has gone through some changes. Last month, at the reorganization meeting on December 16, Vice-Mayor Nikki Perez (sitting in photo) was selected by council members as the new mayor. Perez has deep roots in the Media City.
Mayor Perez, a Burbank native
She was born and raised in the city and is a product of the Burbank Unified School District. Perez holds a B.A. in Psychology and a B.A.
in Music Performance from UC Riverside. Also, she earned a Master of Social Welfare from the UCLA Luskin School of
Public Affairs. Perez is the first indigenous and openly LGBTOIA member to serve on the city council. Inclusivity is an important element of her platform. In a news release, Perez pledged, “I am committed to building upon a City where everyone has a voice and opportunity to thrive. I look forward to working with the entire City Council and our community on the issues that matter most to our residents and businesses.”
The council picked Councilmember Tamala Takahashi (left of Perez in photo) to serve as vice mayor. Takahashi, Councilmember Zizette Mullins, and Mayor Perez were elected to four-year terms in 2022. Meanwhile, the newest council member, Christopher Rizzotti, was elected in the November 5, 2024 General Election. Rizzotti is a former Burbank Planning Commissioner. In that same election, incumbent Councilmember Konstantine Anthony was reelected by the voters.
Perez, Mullins, and Takahashi are up for reelection in 2026. As is the tradition, Perez and Takahashi will serve in their new positions for one year until December 2025.
The city council meeting begins at 4:30 pm today in the council chamber on the second floor of City Hall. It is a joint meeting with the Burbank Housing Authority. Here is the agenda.
