The Burbank Police are seeking information about a woman impersonating a nurse. 44-year old Amanda Leeann Porter, of Virginia, reportedly obtained a nursing position at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank earlier this year. For about a month, Porter oversaw the care of about 60 patients. However, according to a news release from the BPD, hospital staff soon discovered Porter was impersonating a registered nurser who lived out of state. By that time, Porter had collected two paychecks for the time she was fraudulently employed. Porter does not have a nursing license.
During an investigation, Burbank detectives learned Porter had gained employment using false identities at several hospitals in Los Angeles County. Earlier this month, BPD arrested Porter. On November 12, 2024, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed charges of identity theft, false impersonation, and grand theft against Porter. A day later, she was arraigned and is currently held without bail at the Los Angeles County Central Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood.
Authorities suspect Porter may have committed similar offenses in Southern California during the past year. If you have any information about Porter obtaining employment at a medical facility, please contact your local law enforcement agency or Burbank Police Detective Arias at (818) 238-3210.
