An investigation underway in Burbank today following an officer involved shooting at a McDonald’s restaurant early this morning. The incident began around midnight at the McDonald’s at 2565 Hollywood Way near the Hollywood Burbank Airport. Officers reportedly responded to a call of “a man causing a disturbance.”
“As the officers arrived, they were advised the suspect told McDonald’s employees that he was armed with a gun. The first responding officers evacuated the employees, who were the only people inside.
The officers confirmed the suspect was armed with a gun and tried to communicate with him, but he would not comply with their orders to exit. The man fired multiple rounds and leveled the gun at the officers. At this point, an officer involved shooting took place. Three officers fired upon the suspect, striking him multiple times.
The suspect jumped out of the restaurant, via a window that had been shattered and into the drive-thru area, where officers saw him turn the gun on himself,” according to a Burbank PD news release.
The unidentified suspect was transported to the hospital, but later died of his wounds. No officers were hurt in the confrontation. Burbank Police detectives, Internal Affairs Bureau, and Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office are all involved in the investigation.
