An elderly Burbank resident is recovering in the hospital today after being pulled from his burning home at 326 South Griffith Park Drive. The fire was called into the Burbank Fire Department at around 9:10 a.m. Neighbor, Linda Rosen, was one of those who called 9-1-1. Her husband, Bob Rosen, went next door and saw”… the smoke pouring out of the roof.” Also, Rosen says the fire was so hot it broke out windows.
The first to arrive on the scene were several Burbank Police Department units. Rosen says one of the police offices “… kicked in the front door and dragged a person out.” The victim was the homeowner,Edward Lattner, who is in his seventies. Lattner was “10 feet from the door,” according to Jorge Martinez of the Burbank Fire Department. The victim was rushed to nearby Saint Joseph Medical Center with smoke inhalation. The unidentified police officer was taken to the hospital to be checkout.
The fire was knocked down at 9:29 p.m. The cause is under investigation. More on this story coming.
