After 13 hours of debate and numerous amendments by supporters to keep the Confederate battle flag flying, the South Carolina House voted overwhelmingly today to pass a bill to take down that relic of the Confederacy. The vote was 94- 20.One of the most passionate and emotional speeches for the take down of a flag, which has come to symbolize hatred, racism, and slavery by many across the country, came from State Representative Jenny Horne.
Horne is right. The world is watching.
The measure has passed the South Carolina Senate and Governor, Nikki Haley, has said she will sign it into law. More here and here.
