There’s confusion surrounding Burbank’s Spring Egg-Stravaganza 2014. The long time tradition is scheduled to get underway tomorrow, April 19, 9.a.m-noon at McCambridge Park 1515 North Glenoaks Boulevard. No publicity blitz for this event. City staffers have depended mostly on announcements at city council meetings and promotion on the city website.
Originally, the city site had only a link to a fast-talking You Tube video for the Spring Egg-Stravaganza. Earlier this month, I emailed Drew Sugars, Burbank public information officer, about that situation.
A short time later, a written announcement was posted on the city website and it emphasized the new requirements of pre-registration, which you can apparently do online, by phone or in person, for the kiddy Easter egg hunts. The video claims spots are ” limited” for the egg hunts. At council meetings, city officials insisted “no one would be turned away” and that registration would be available on Saturday at McCambridge Park. Like I said, confusing.
“Last year they ran into an issue when a number of children did not get a treat. This new method allows for a better head count for pre-planning to increase the odds that everyone gets to participate,” said Sugars in an email. Activist, Mike Nolan, has asked about the registration change at several city council meetings.
Another new rule — $2 donation to take a photo with the Easter Bunny. Also, there will be inflatable bounce houses, games, prizes, and food trucks. For more information on the event and the latest on registration for kids, 10 years and younger, call (818) 238-5300.
