Pressure mounts for embattled Burbank School Board member Charlene Tabet to resign. A petition on change.org demanding that Tabet step down is nearing 700 signatures. The petition was initiated by a group of concerned Burbank parents on June 10. The group took this action following the June 5 school board meeting, where a bombshell was dropped regarding Tabet and her alleged involvement in a contract scheme. Tabet did not attend the meeting.
At the center of the controversy is a $90,000 contract that Specialized Support Services had with the school district. Evidence, some of which is listed on the Burbank School District website, shows Tabet has connections to the company. A Burbank police investigation, along with a third-party probe initiated by the school district into the questionable deal, is underway.
During a special board meeting on June 11, a resolution censuring Tabet for “serious violations of Board policy and ethical standards” passed unanimously. Again, Tabet was not at the meeting. On the agenda for the July 10 school board meeting is an item to address the dismissal of Tabet from her position as clerk of the board.
Meanwhile, more demands for Tabet to resign from the Burbank Teachers Association and the Burbank school staff.
