A plume of smoke from a fire burning in the 300 block of West Spazier Avenue in Burbank could be seen for miles today. At one point, the column of smoke was so tall and so dark that some spectators thought there might be a brush fire on the rampage. That turned out not to be the case. The fire broke out at around 11: 20 a.m. Burbank Fire Captain Peter Hendrickson told Media City Groove the “… fire completely enveloped the rear detached garage and quickly began to extend to the home” on the Rancho property.

KTLA is reporting the property is owned by Sharon Baldoni, the mother of TV actor Justin Baldoni — who was spotted at the scene. Baldoni stars in The CW hit comedy series, “Jane the Virgin.” Two people managed to escape with three dogs and two horses . The two victims, a man and woman, had no serious injuries, but were treated for mild smoke inhalation.
Firefighters from Burbank and Glendale had the blaze pretty much knocked down by noontime. Henrickson says the cause has been traced to an appliance and the damage to structures and content put at $200,000.
