The Los Angeles Lakers today announced what many had expected. Kobe Bryant will have shoulder surgery. Some reports are saying this means Bryant is done for the season. Age maybe catching up with the 36 year-old veteran player who has missed a lot of games over the past three seasons due to injuries.
Already there is chatter suggesting it’s time for Bryant to hang-up his basketball sneakers and take that walk into retirement. The Laker organization says it will announce details on Bryant’s recovery after the surgery. Here’s the statement posted on the Lakers’ website.
EL SEGUNDO – Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, who injured his right shoulder in last Wednesday night’s game against the Pelicans in New Orleans, was examined this morning by Dr. Neal ElAttrache of the Kerlan Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic. Dr. ElAttrache confirmed an earlier diagnosis of a torn rotator cuff, and advised Bryant to have surgery to repair the shoulder. Bryant has agreed, and surgery has been scheduled for Wednesday morning. A timeline estimate for Bryant’s return will be issued following the surgery.
