There are some rumblings about efforts underway to keep the Los Angeles Sparks in the Southland. That’s something many Sparks fans are hoping will happen and, to let their voices be heard, they’re signing a petition. During the first week of the month, word got out that an investment group, led by former NBC executive, Paula Madison, had given up ownership of the team and handed it back to the WNBA. Since then, the team’s future has been up in the air.
Last week, Golden State Warriors owner, Joe Lacob, expressed his continued interest in owning the Sparks, but indicated there is no deal. In ESPN’s Michelle Smith’s post about Lacob and the Sparks, she mentioned there might be “.. a Los Angeles individual or group.. ” willing to step in and take over the ownership of the team. Smith added: “Sources said a group was put in touch with the WNBA through a contact with the Los Angeles Lakers.”
The WNBA is very tight-lipped about Sparks situation and has not released any public comments about the team’s future. More here and here.
