Earvin “Magic” Johnson, NBA legend, billionaire, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, has a special event coming up on New Year’s Day. Johnson is the 2026 Rose Parade Grand Marshal. So he will be riding in some grand vehicle rolling down Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena during the Rose Parade festivities.
Tournament of Roses President Mark Leavens made the announcement last Wednesday, October 8. Johnson’s selection fits nicely into the parade’s theme, “The Magic in Teamwork.” The Laker superstar is a five-time NBA champion, three-time MVP, and Olympic gold medalist.
In a news release, the Tournament of Roses Association praised Johnson as the right choice at the right time.
“Still a commanding presence in the sports world, he co-owns the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball, Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA, Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Football Club, Washington Commanders of the NFL, eSports franchise Team Liquid and most recently joined the ownership group for the National Women’s Soccer League’s Washington Spirit in September 2024.
From dazzling playmaking on the court to visionary leadership in business and unwavering commitment to communities, Magic Johnson continues to inspire millions around the world. The Pasadena Tournament of Roses is thrilled to celebrate his extraordinary journey and the happiness he brings everywhere he goes!”
Johnson will also participate in the pre-game ceremony at the 112th Rose Bowl Game in Pasadena on January 1.
