Since early last month, fans of the Los Angeles Sparks have been waiting, petitioning, and praying for a Southland miracle to rescue the team from limbo. The WNBA team got blindsided when previous owner/former NBC executive, Paula Madison, and her family investment group, abruptly walked away from the team — tossing the ownership reins back to the league.
Now NBA Hall of Famer/entrepreneur, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, has come to the rescue. There are reports out tonight that Johnson and Los Angeles Dodgers chairman, Mark Walter, have joined forces to purchase the Sparks and keep them from relocating out of the area.
A 10 a.m.news conference has been scheduled for tomorrow, February 5, with Johnson, Walters, and WNBA president, Laurel Richie at Staples Center. More on this development on ESPN website.
