Thousands of students were left hanging when Marinello Schools of Beauty abruptly shut down last week. The Burbank location at 200 North San Fernando Boulevard closed its doors on Thursday, February 4. Marinello, which celebrated its 110th year anniversary in 2015, defended its decision in an open letter to the students posted on its website: “We want you to know that we did everything in our power to avoid this unfortunate conclusion and keep your school open. Unfortunately, the Department of Education’s unprecedented and unfounded actions left us with no other option except to close our schools. ”
Marinello, which had 56 campuses nationwide, is accused of “charging excessive fees” and mishandling federal aid according to media reports. The closure of Marinello affects an estimated 4,300 students and 800 employees. This week, Marinello is holding information meetings at the campuses for students to obtain important papers such as transcripts and proof of training, as well as opportunities to discuss options and their rights with representatives of state agencies.
The schedule of meetings is on the Marinello website. The meetings for Burbank are set for today, Thursday, February 11 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the North San Fernando Blvd site. If a student cannot attend a meeting there are instructions on the website on how to get the school documents sent out in the mail.
