Burbank Rose Parade float preparations kick into high gear today and more volunteers are needed. Yesterday, I spent some time at the float barn, 123 West Olive Avenue in Burbank, watching the volunteers work their magic. I followed two volunteers, Connie Weir and Virginia Meyers, as they meticulously decorated a recreation of a Victrola record player — produced during the early part of the 20th Century by The Victor Talking Machine Company.

Weir and Meyers added detail to the float prop with cranberry and lettuce seeds. Oh, and a lot of glue!

Meyers worked on her first Burbank Rose float in 1963 and has been coming back ever since to enjoy the experience which she says is “a lot of fun.”

This is the fourth year that Weir has volunteered to work on the Burbank Rose Parade float.
