The popular “Ladies & Gents Night Out” event in Burbank’s Magnolia Park is returning this month, but with some major changes. Earlier this week, the Magnolia Park Merchants Association sent out an email to shop owners and businesses in the affected area, announcing new rules, which are the result of a series of meetings between members of the association and Burbank officials.  Here are the two main changes as explained in the association’s email.

“No more than 2 trucks may be placed per block.  Due to the downsize in trucks, the event has been stretched to Catalina st totaling 25 food trucks and 3 mobile boutiques…  Food trucks will be rotated and are aware that they will be placed anywhere within this area.” A map of the truck locations, approved by the city, along with more requirements for truck vendors here.

“NO exhibitors or table vendors may be allowed on the city sidewalks of Magnolia Blvd or any side streets between Hollywood Way and Catalina St.during the event hours of 5-9pm. Due to tables crowding sidewalks, strollers, dogs, and food truck lines, the Burbank PD believes this to be a safety issue and is no longer allowing sidewalk blockage.”

The free event, described as an evening of shopping, food, entertainment, and fun, has been drawing hundreds, even thousands of visitors to the boulevard, on the last Friday of the month between the hours 6-9 p.m. It has been embraced by some local businesses and shop owners, while others shut their doors during the event.

Longtime Magnolia Park business owner, Laree Adel of “Best of Times” antiques, sees the event as “a beach city night. Not that heavy of a shopping (experience). Date night. Some stores in (with the vibe)– some out.”

One of the shop owners who can relate to the vibe and gears up for the event is Susie Demirjian of “Out of the Box Outlet“: “It’s a nice event. Brings community together. My customers …(plan) for that night.” The women’s apparel and jewelry boutique has been at two locations on the boulevard in less than two years. It’s present space is 3202 West Magnolia Boulevard.

Demirjian says the present location offers “a lot more foot traffic.” The 27 year-old Burbank resident gives some of the credit to “Ladies & Gents Night Out”: “It’s helped us … brought in business.”

“Out of the Box” sells pure linen and cotton women’s clothing at reasonable prices. Nothing is over $30. Demirjian is proud that the clothes are all made in America, a few miles away, in Sun Valley

The new rules for “Ladies & Gents Night Out” will not allow the shop’s jewelry vendor to put up a table on the sidewalk. No problem. Demirjian says she’ll move “our jewelry lady inside” the shop. Demirjian is willing to give the new rules a try and see how they work out.

The next “Ladies & Gents Night Out” on Magnolia Boulevard is Friday, January 29.
