That long-awaited and much-needed new public parking lot in Magnolia Park is now ready for business. The lot is on Magnolia Boulevard between Kenwood and Maple Streets. Media City Groove has been following the progress of this lot for months. A shortage of parking is one of the major challenges facing the growing Magnolia Park area. The lot was once slated to be finished by the beginning of this summer. Burbank Public Works Director, Bonnie Teaford, says equipment delays and additional requirements from the Los Angeles’ Department of Water and Power (which owns the land) put the project behind schedule.

E.R. Alvarado is employed by GMZ Engineering, Inc the contractor that handled the construction of the project. I chatted with Alvarado as he was removing the fence, section by section, yesterday. The North Hollywood resident raved about the lot’s water-saving irrigation system.

Alvarado says there’s an underground drip system which waters the root ball of the plants. I’m told it’s a very efficient way to cut down on the among of outdoor watering.

Last month, black parking lot light poles were installed. Also, the parking lot signs went up — indicating a 2-hour parking limit between 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. except by permit Monday through Friday. Some of the local businesses should probably jump at the chance to secure some of this parking for their employees.
