Well known activist and communications consultant, Steve Ferguson, is making a second run for the Burbank Board of Education. Ferguson finished third in the 2013 General Election for two seats on that board, behind Charlene Tabet and Larry Applebaum. In the 2015 municipal elections, February 24 and April 14, three board seats will be on the mail in ballots. Board members up for re-election are Roberta Reynolds, Ted Bunch, and Dave Kemp.
Ferguson, who is a long time resident, was educated in Burbank schools. Ferguson’s commitment to community service began at the young age of 11. In the years since, Ferguson has served on more than 18 civic and nonprofit boards. He’s the youngest person to serve as Chairman of the Burbank Parks, Recreation, and Community Services board.
Also, Ferguson has been very active with Burbank schools. He serves on the Board of the Burbank/Burroughs Alumni Association, Burbank School District’s Guidance Master Plan Committee, working to improve student access to academic counseling resources, as well as the District Local Control Accountability Plan Committee, which determines community funding priorities in the district’s budget process.

Writing today to formally announce my candidacy for the Burbank Board of Education.
Our world is advancing at a rapid pace. Education across the country and here at home is struggling to keep up.
I am running to ensure that the school district is preparing our students well to compete economically. We want our students to be college AND career ready and I am committed to raising college readiness and reviving and developing vocational programs in our schools.
While our district continues to face significant challenges, I have no doubt that new energy, leadership and a spirit of collaboration can ignite our community’s educational potential to forge a better, more prepared future.
