The new Superman movie is receiving a lot of attention from audiences. Many wondered if this latest big-screen film based on the beloved comic book character might fall flat with moviegoers, but last weekend’s box office proved skeptics wrong. ‘Superman’ soared to the top of the domestic box office on its opening weekend with a tally of around $125 million.

In second place, ‘Jurassic World Rebirth,’ with $40.3 million, bringing its two-week total to $232,448,420. The dinosaur-science fiction reboot was followed by the race car action flick, “‘F1: The Movie,’ in third at $13 million, ahead of the live-action fantasy ‘How to Train Your Dragon,’ in fourth with $7.9 million. Rounding out the top five, Disney’s sci-fi animation ‘Elio,” with $4 million.

Joining the domestic box office derby this coming weekend are the reboots of heavy-hitters, the Paramount animation starring Rihanna, ‘Smurfs,’ and the horror/suspense film, ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer.’ However, the superhero in the red cape is expected to keep a tight grip on the number one spot. Despite reaching $250 million worldwide, ‘Superman’ has not earned the title of blockbuster hit. James Gunn wrote and directed this version of the Man of Steel. Gunn is also the co-CEO of DC Studios, which produced the film.
