“The Dark Knight” continues its record-breaking romp at the box office. For the third straight week, the Batman sequel is the number one film in the country with $42.6 million.
On Monday, “The Dark Knight” leaped over the $400 million mark in only 18 days — the fastest any movie has reached that level. The last holder of that record, “Shrek 2,” took 43 days to get to that point.
Meanwhile, the third installment of the Mummy series, “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,” starring Brendan Fraser debuted with $40.4 million. I caught this flick over the weekend. Some thrills and nice special effects, but the story and dialogue were weak.
Number three, “Step Brothers” with $16.5 million followed by “Mamma Mia!” with $12.6 million and “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” which stars Fraser as well pulled in $6.6 million.
