Seven happy young ladies found out today they’re going to be riding the queen’s float in the Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year’s Day 2013. The winners were selected from a field, which began at around 900 Pasadena area hopefuls about a month ago.
Today the judge’s decision of the seven princess was announced at Tournament House in Pasadena. The princesses were picked from 33 finalists. All of the contestants were judged on a range of qualities including public speaking ability, poise, academic achievement, community involvement and personality.
The Rose Court princesses are Kathryne Alice Benuska, 17, Maranatha High School; Tracy Italia Cresta, 17, La Salle High School; Vanessa Natalie Manjarrez, 17, Mayfield Senior School; Victoria Sophia McGregor, 17, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy; Nicole Cherie Nelam, 17, Pasadena High School; Sonia Marie Shenoi, 17, San Marino High School and Madison Michelle Barili Teodo, 17, La Canada High School.
The next step is the crowning of the 2013 Rose Queen, which is set for Tuesday, October 16. The Rose Queen and Rose Court are goodwill ambassadors who will reign for a year and attend more than 150 community and media events. More on the new Rose Court here.
