Last week I felt heavy-hearted and saddened by the horrific Boston bombings.
First of all, I share the sorrow of those who were injured and the families who lost loved ones. Especially, I would like to express gratitude and pay respect to the fallen police officer, MIT Police Officer Sean Collier, and other police officers who risked their lives in catching the suspects and maintaining the public safety and order.
While I was contemplating about why on Earth this kind of incident happens, one story which I learned a long time ago came to my mind.
Confucius (B.C. 551 – B.C. 479), who was a scholar and teacher in the Orient a very long time ago, said: “A real teacher is the one who you yourself make.”
Confucius explained it like this: “If I am walking with two other men, each of them will serve as my teacher. If one is a good man, I will pick out the good points and emulate them. If the other is a bad man, I will pick out the bad points, and search and correct them in myself.”
Thinking about the sad reality which has happened in Boston, I cannot do anything about it.
Though the incident was tragic and sad, it also made me all the more keenly aware of the efforts and sacrifices which law enforcement personnel make. Thinking about police officers, I got an idea of one thing which can be done by me, and my business.
I’m making a special offer: as a small token of appreciation, I’ll clean police officers’ clothes for free and their families’ clothes for 50% off throughout this week (4/22 – 4/27). I will clean and press them with a happy and thankful mind. You may pass this offer on to police officers in your neighborhood, particularly in Burbank and Glendale.
Also, I wish that you will be able to find real teacher figures among others and therefore, become a teacher yourself to everyone you encounter this week.
