CA/Gov Race—

Another Democrat has dropped out of the race for California governor. Former state controller Betty Yee announced yesterday that she was suspending her campaign. In a crowded field of candidates, Yee never rose above single digits in the polls. In the latest Emerson College Polling/Inside California Politics survey, released Thursday, April 16, Yee polled at 1% when asked, “Who would you vote for today?”
Here is how the other major candidates fared.
Steve Hilton 17%, Chad Bianco 14%, Tom Steyer 14%, Xavier Becerra 10%, Katie Porter 10%, Matt Mahan 5%, Antonio Villaraigosa 3%, and Tony Thurmond 1%. Hilton and Bianco are Republicans, while the others in the lead pack are Democrats. Meanwhile, a significant number of voters polled, 23%, said they were still undecided.
This poll was taken after former Congressman Eric Swalwell suspended his campaign for governor and resigned his seat earlier this month, amid controversy over sexual allegations and inappropriate behavior charges.
The primary is on June 2, so those all-important undecided voters have only a few weeks to make a choice. Their decision will likely determine which two candidates advance to the general election in November.
