Northern California Rep. Eric Swalwell’s fall from grace was unexpected and swift. Last month, Swalwell (D-Dublin) was a frontrunner to be the next governor of the Golden State. Then came a flood of bombshell allegations of inappropriate behavior and sexual allegations, including rape, from a former staffer. All in a matter of days. Yesterday, Sunday, April 12, the veteran Congressman put the brakes on his faltering campaign.
He posted this on Twitter/X.
I am suspending my campaign for Governor.
To my family, staff, friends, and supporters, I am deeply sorry for mistakes in judgment I’ve made in my past.
I will fight the serious, false allegations that have been made — but that’s my fight, not a campaign’s.

Also, there are calls for Swalwell to resign or be expelled from the U.S. House of Representatives. Swalwell was first elected to the House in 2012. More on Swalwell and the political scandal swirling around him here.
