A Powerball lottery winner is holding a ticket worth $5.4 million dollars. The ticket was bought for the September 23 draw at Thirst Quencher Liquor, 440 North Glenoaks Blvd here in Burbank. The ticket shows five of the six winning numbers. It lacks the red Powerball number. Those lucky digits were 1, 12, 20, 3, 66 and the Powerball was 21. No one picked all six numbers so the jackpot of $750 million dollars rolled over. However, almost 200,000 players in the Golden State won some money in Saturday’s draw.
The day after Saturday’s drawing at around 11 am Thirst Quencher was quiet and the store clerk greeted me with a big smile. The clerk, who gave his name only as “Joe” said some customers trickled in this morning, among them, “people… … I haven’t seen before.” Joe doesn’t know how big a cut the store will get, but he is hoping for a “nice little bonus.”
Also, he says Thirst Quencher is considered a lottery store because it has sold winning tickets previously, at least one worth as much as $380,128. He thinks the multi-million dollar winning ticket will bring in a lot of ticket buyers today for tonight’s draw. The big prize has grown to an estimated $785 million and could go even higher by the time ticket sales close. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292,201,338.00. Pretty long odds. The upside, eventually someone does win.
