Burbank Police Chief Michael Albanese responded last week to a controversial incident involving an alleged homeless man and two Burbank cops back on June 6, 2024. Los Angeles City Council President Paul Krekorian claimed the incident was an example of homeless dumping in North Hollywood by the Burbank officers. Krekorian called a news conference to complain loudly about the incident and even provided a video.
Burbank Police investigation
The media quickly picked up on the controversy here and across the country. At the time, the Burbank Police Department said it was in “the process of conducting its own rigorous internal investigation.” Also, in a statement, the City of Burbank warned against “a rush to judgment without the benefits of the investigation findings.”
Last Tuesday, August 27, Chief Albanese went before the Burbank City Council and reported on the results of that investigation.
The Burbank Police released a statement on the results of its investigation as well. It is here on the Burbank PD website.
Reaction from L.A. City Council President Krekorian
Meanwhile, The L.A. City Council President’s Office released the following statement on Thursday, August 29.
City Council President Paul Krekorian has made the following response to the Burbank Police Department’s statement concerning its review of the events of June 6.
“We’ve only begun to review the Burbank Police Department’s summary of its review. There are many obvious inconsistencies and unanswered questions remaining. I look forward to working with the Burbank City Council to thoroughly review the Department’s report about this tragic incident, and more importantly, the broader practices of the Burbank Police Department and the City of Burbank in dealing with people who are unhoused or suffering from mental illness. All governments in our region need to work collaboratively to address this crisis and provide care to those who need it. We will follow up with additional questions shortly.”
