The Burbank School Board took another action against beleaguered member Charlene Tabet this week. At its meeting last Thursday, on July 10, the board of education removed Tabet as clerk. Oscar Macias, acting superintendent, presented the case for Tabet’s dismissal.
Marcias gave a report noting the board’s decision last month to formally censure Tabet for her failure to disclose a financial interest in a contract between Specialized Support Services and the school district. This violated the board’s bylaws against conflict of interest. Tabet and her involvement with Specialized Support Services are under investigation by an outside agency authorized by the school district, as well as the Burbank Police Department.
Also, the report pointed out Tabet’s lack of performance in her duties as a clerk. Tabet reportedly has not attended a board meeting since May 15, 2025. Following the report, the four school board members, Armond Aghakhanian, Abby Pontzer Kamkar, Emily Weisberg, and Laurette Cano, voted unanimously to remove Tabet as clerk. Weisberg was selected to replace Tabet.
Meanwhile, a petition demanding Tabet’s resignation from the school board has reached 700 signatures and will likely continue to grow.
