The numbers are in and Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” is a mega hit. Some say this is really an “Avengers” movie with the superheroes taking sides, some stand with Captain America played by Chris Evans, others back up Robert Downey, Jr.’s Iron Man. No matter, moviegoers are loving it. The confrontation was golden at the box office this past weekend, as the film debuted at number one with the fifth largest opening weekend of all time. “Captain America: Civil War” took in $179.1 million at the domestic box office. Worldwide the action flick has a take of over $670 million.
Disney’s blockbuster animation, “The Jungle Book,” swung into second place with $24.4 million for a four-week domestic total of around $288 million. The new romantic comedy, “Mother’s Day,” grabbed a piece of the holiday audience to land in third with $11 million. The film stars Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Julia Roberts and Jason Sudeikis. It’s about motherhood and relationships.
The adventure “The Huntsman: Winter’s War” earned $3.9 million for fourth and rounding out the top five, the R-rated comedy “Keanu” with $3.2 million.
