SoCal/Heat wave —

Calling it hot in Southern California is an understatement. A major, unexpected heat wave is scorching SoCal and hitting the Southland hard, from Ventura County to Orange County in the South to Riverside and San Bernardino Counties in the East. The heat wave kicked off yesterday, breaking or tying several records throughout the greater Los Angeles area.
On Friday, the temperature hit 103 in Downtown Los Angeles, shattering the record set on this date in 1995. In Burbank, the Media City, the temperature topped out at 102, tying a previous record for October 2. The heat wave is expected to blaze and linger over the region for several days with triple-digit heat in Burbank and many other places.
By early afternoon today, the thermometer hit 104 in the Media City and 105 in Downtown Los Angeles. The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning for the coast and valleys of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. Details here.
Also, weather watchers are keeping an eye on another hurricane in the Pacific.
