Excessive heat is blasting Burbank today, bringing out the umbrellas. Last Monday, folks here popped opened umbrellas to deal with lingering showers from what was left of tropical storm Hilary. A week later, umbrellas are being used as shields against a scorching sun.
By 11 a.m. today, the temperature in the Media City had soared past 90 degrees. We’re expecting triple digits in B-town and in much of the Southland today. The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning this morning through tomorrow at 8 p.m. That means, be on the alert for “dangerously hot conditions” in the valleys, mountains, deserts, and inland areas.
The National Weather Service warns: “Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses for anyone, especially for sensitive populations, including young children, the elderly, and those working outdoors or participating in outdoor activities.”
