The $400 million Mega Millions jackpot is history. Two lottery ticket players in last night’s draw will split the money pot. For the first time, Florida has a Mega Millions jackpot winner, and the other player bought the winning ticket in Maryland. The hot numbers: 11, 19, 24, 33, 51, and the Mega Ball 7.
California was not completely shut out of the big money. A ticket purchased up north in San Bruno has all of the winning numbers except the Mega. That ticket is worth $1.96 million!

No big winner from that draw in the Media City, but Tom Huber, of the self-proclaimed luckiest store in Burbank, is still smiling. Huber runs Otto’s European Import Store & Deli at 2320 West Clark Avenue. The little shop is stuffed with all sorts of goodies and delectables. Also, the lottery is serious business here.
“If you win, we win,” is the way Huber explains the store’s philosophy. When I dropped by this morning, Huber showed off a recent winner in the Daily-4 lottery game. The ticket holder picked up $4,000. “Not a bad return on a dollar.” Huber said.
Huber is eager to talk about the lottery — the various games, the rules, and winning tickets bought at his store; their value ranging from a few hundred to several thousand to $1.2 million seven years ago.
They get all kinds of players from individuals to office pools made up of city workers, dentists, doctors, school employees, and entertainment workers at places like Warner Bros. and NBC. If you buy 100 tickets or more they just might toss in a perk like some free snacks or even free tickets.
At Otto’s they love helping customers play the game. Perhaps, that kind of positive environment and the owner’s enthusiasm are reasons the store is so lucky.
