There are tons of talented writers in the Southland, especially here in the Media City, with all kinds of stories to tell. One of them could have just what Quirk Books is searching for through its “Looking for love” contest. Quirk is not on the prowl for the typical love story. This company likes to publish offbeat books like “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,” which became a New York Times bestseller and is in development to become a movie. Another Quirk book, “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” also made the New York Times bestseller list and got a movie deal.
Quirk is looking for a novel-length manuscript in the strange love category. This is how the publisher’s news release described the criteria: “.. love stories that are fresh, fun, and strikingly unconventional. Boy Meets Girl. Girl Meets Girl. Girl Meets Shark. Shark Meets Pirate. Anything goes!” Oh, there is one exception. No vampires.
The winning manuscript gets a book contract and $10,000. And who knows. Perhaps, Hollywood will come knocking with a movie deal as well. Deadline for submission is October 1, 2013. More details on the “Looking for Love” fiction contest here.
