Organizers are cheering the success of yesterday’s No Kings rallies across the nation and in several countries. The grassroots movement, Indivisible, claims on its website that more than 8 million participants took part in 3,300 demonstrations on Saturday, March 28. Independent sources have not verified that number, but most agree it was one of the largest one-day protests in recent memory.
The crowds have grown from the first two No Kings actions last year. Apparently, as President Trump becomes bolder and more controversial in his actions, more Americans hit the streets to protest what they see as overreach and attempts to dismantle US democracy. Also, the protesters are venting their frustration and anger creatively with their signs and banners.

In Burbank, a huge rally at Abraham Lincoln Park on North Buena Vista Street spilled out onto the sidewalks in the surrounding area. One of the on-site coordinators told me that 600 people signed up, but at least twice that many showed up. The crowd was diverse, from seniors to young children in strollers.

For the most part, the protests were peaceful, but a confrontation did occur at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Downtown Los Angeles. A number of arrests were made. Meanwhile, the movement leaders are planning to hold a brainstorming session this coming week to decide on the next step.
