A memorial service to honor Burbank police dog Spike is set for tomorrow, December 3. A memorial at the headquarters of Burbank Police and Fire on North Third Street in Downtown Burbank has attracted crowds since the 4-year-old canine was fatally wounded in the line of duty late last month.
An armed suspect fatally shot K-9 Spike during a search following a traffic stop in the 2400 block of Buena Vista Street. It happened around 6:40 pm on Saturday, November 22. During the stop, a passenger fled from the vehicle and into a nearby residential neighborhood. During the search, K-9 Spike located the suspect, who reportedly fired several shots, striking the canine, before fleeing. Spike was rushed to an emergency veterinarian, but unfortunately, died of his wounds.
